Renger-Patzsch began his career as a photographer in the photographic department of the Folkwang Verlag (known as Auriga after 1924), which was led by Ernst Fuhrmann, Renger-Patzsch’s spiritual mentor. The main focus of his work after 1921 was plant photography: uncontrived, revealingly precise representations of plant forms.
Individual plant photographs by Renger-Patzsch, made between 1922 and 1925 during his time at Folkwang/Auriga, are known from the epoch-making volume of photographs, The World is Beautiful.
