In Quarta Persona is the first project realized by the duo Martin Errichiello & Filippo Menichetti. Among others, it is recipient of FOAM Talent 2017 (Foam Museum, Amsterdam) and of Premio Pesaresi per la Fotografia Contemporanea 2016.
Filippo Menichetti was born in Florence in 1986. In 2009, after graduating in Psychology at “La Sapienza” of Rome he decided to entirely embrace photography. After a year traveling between the United States, Europe and Asia he attended a master’s degree in photojournalism and reportage to the Scuola Romana di Fotografia in Rome. There he approached large format photography with a project on the urban landscape (“Ostia”, 2010) directing his gaze to the interactions between man and his environment. From 2015 he start a visual research on the recent history of Calabria region, in southern Italy, that will become the project “In Fourth Person”, realized together with Errichiello. From 2018 he lives and works in Paris.
Martin Errichiello is a visual author born in Napoli in 1987. He pursues a personal investigation of the visual language through different medias. In 2010 he graduates in photography and visual communication at the CFP “Bauer” of Milan with an internship with the artist Raffaela Mariniello. Since then he promoted self-published editorial projects, collaborated with multimedia studios as freelance filmmaker and produced several projects, installations and a book. He’s now based in Napoli, where he keeps working on a mixed media long-term research about South Italy’s identity.
“In the 1960s, in the midst of the so-called “economic miracle,” Italy’s cultural and political powers established substantial processes of transformation: in the name of progress, they stimulated new roads, new machines and industries, and in doing so, a new identity. They transformed territories and traditions. To fulfill this new identity, the most isolated areas had to connect with one another technically and politically. The most remote souls and attitudes had to be folded into the promise of change.
The Calabria region in southern Italy, the case study for our visual exploration, is an ancient land where the challenge of modernity has imposed its language and aesthetics, slowly oppressing the territory’s human and natural landscape. “In Fourth Person” is a multimedia research project about piecing together the fragmented narrative of its anthropological, geopolitical and environmental transformation over the last 50 years.” Filippo Menichetti on Lensculture
