Short Cuts 01 presents 4 new photobooks. It starts witch Chad Moore and concludes with ESA’s historic Rosetta mission.
(1) Chad Moore: Memoria (Pacific & agnès b., 2019)
Pacific has partnered with agnès b. galerie boutique Tokyo for the making of Memoria, photographer Chad Moore’s first hardcover publication. Memoria includes 100 images of Moore’s choosing, featuring both glowing landscapes and intimate portraits, pictures of friends who appear both in pairs and alone, euphoric and isolated. A short text by artist and poet Jack Walls sits in the centerfold.
(2) Spread: Ruth van Beek, Thomas Mailaender, Anika Schwarzlose, Erik van der Weijde, Mariken Wessels (APE, 2019)
spread’ is a publication/exhibition discussing questions on the fe-/male gaze and the contemporary appropriation of other peoples perspectives. The publication contains 5 posters based on spreads from publications by Ruth van Beek, Thomas Mailaender, Anika Schwarzlose, Erik van der Weijde and Mariken Wessels. Curated by Lotte Reimann & Torsten Scheid. With the support of Kunstverein Hildesheim.
(3) Tomasz Lewandowski: Auschwitz – Fall of the Modern Age ( Mitteldeutscher Verlag, 2019)
Auschwitz – fall of the modern age is a publication of the photo-documentary project Auschwitz – ultima ratio of the modern age. All photos in this book are copies of the large-format negative prints.
(4) The Comet. The Journey of Rosetta (Editions Xavier Barral, 2019)
This publication takes us into space aboard the Rosetta probe and tells the incredible story of its mission led by the European Space Agency. The reader follows the ten-year orbital journey of Rosetta through 150 B&W photographs. With texts by Jean-Pierre Bibring – astrophysician, responsible of Rosetta’s lander – and Hanns Zischler, author and filmmaker.
