In the summer of 2005 Julia Baier first discovered the Japanese culture of bathing and out of this experience grew the publication – Sentō 銭湯 – the Japanese Bath-house. The photographs collected here, depict bathers at ease, absently-minded cleansing their bodies, and interacting with one another within the confines of these public, yet intimate spaces. A total of forty duotone photographs are presented, accompanied by a short essay by Rita Zobel and a conversation with Peter Bialobrzeski.
